Paul Gross’ war film “Passchendaele” was the big winner at last nights Canadian Genie Awards picking up up six Genies, including best film. Benoit Pilon’s “The Necessities of Life”/”Ce qu’il faut pour vivre,” Canada’s selection for Oscar best foreign film, won four awards.

The night was not without controversy however, when Kristin Booth, of the controversial film Young People Fucking ( YPF), won for best performance in a supporting role.

The film had prompted the government to introduce a bill that would have allowed the government to deny tax credits from productions determined to be “contrary to public policy.”

Ms. Booth reportedly joked in an interview before the show that if she won she would say the movie’s title as many times as she possibly could. She however, only said the profanity once in her acceptance speech: “I am so fucking excited.”
