America Ferrera, Melissa Leo, Wilmer Valderrama in “The Dry Land”

- America Ferrera in “Real Women Have Curves”

America Ferrera, of “Ugly Betty” and “Real Women Have Curves” fame, is in New Mexico shooting the independent film “The Dry Land” with independent filmmaker Heather Rae through May 24.
The film which also stars Ryan O’Nan, Wilmer Valderrama, Jason Ritter and Melissa Leo (Frozen River) is a drama about a young man returning home from war who has trouble adjusting back to life in his small town.
Ferrera is also an executive producer on the film with Sergio Aguero of “Y Tu Mama Tambien.” Maya Entertainment is financing and distributing the film. The film is presented by Maya, Besito Films and Take Fountain Productions.
