As the Bollywood strike enters its seventh week, its expected that there won’t be a single major release at least till the 1st week of July. This means that movies like Kaminey, New York, Love AAJ Kal, Jashnn, Kambakkth Ishq, Life Partner and Shortkut – The Con Is On, all of which were otherwise schedule to be released in the first half of 2009, would now have to release in July or later.

In the U.S., the Eagle Theater in Jackson Heights, Queens, New York, that specializes in first-run Bollywood movies has temporarily closed because of the Bollywood strike. The 500-seat Eagle is in an ethnically Indian neighborhood and is expected to reopen as soon as the strike in India ends.

The Bollywood strike continues after producers and multiplex cinema owners failed to reach agreement over box office revenue sharing agreement. Producers argue that they deserve an equal share of takings, instead of the traditional 60-40 split in favour of multiplex owners.
