Welcome “Goodbye Solo”

Winner of the Venice Film Festival’s prestigious FIPRESCI International Critics Prize, ‘Goodbye Solo‘ is the latest film from internationally-acclaimed filmmaker Ramin Bahrani (’Chop Shop,’ ‘Man Push Cart’). ‘Goodbye Solo’ opens in Portland this week. Remaining cities include: May 10 Portland, OR Fox Tower, May 15 Atlanta Midtown Art Cinema, May 15 Austin, TX Arbor, May 15 St. Louis Tivoli Theater, June 14 Ojai, CA Ojai Theatre.

Goodbye Solo features the debut of new comer Souléymane Sy Savané as the title character Solo, a cheerful, thickly accented Senegalese cab driver who spends his nights driving fares around Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Solo’s Mexican wife, Quiera (Carmen Leyva) is on his case to get his act together, and their relationship is strained-despite the fact that they’re expecting their first child together, and that Solo has a loving relationship with Quiera’s daughter, Alex (Diana Franco Galindo).

Things change when he picks up William (Red West). William is a tough Southern good ol’ boy with a lifetime of regrets. One man’s American dream is just beginning, while the other’s is quickly winding down. But despite their differences, both men soon realize they need each other more than either is willing to admit.
