William “Bill” Basch, a retired Los Angeles garment industry executive who was one of the Holocaust survivors whose stories were told in the Oscar-winning documentary “The Last Days,” has died. He was 82.

"Fish Tank"
The nominations and jury members for the twelfth annual British Independent Film Awards (BIFAs) were announced yesterday in London. The film receiving the most nods is Fish Tank with eight nominations. Moon follows with seven nominations. An Education, In The Loop and Nowhere Boy each receive six nominations and Bright Star receives four. Other films with multiple nominations are Katalin Varga receiving three, and Bronson and Bunny & The Bull receiving two nominations each.

The San Francisco Film Society today awarded the Hearst Screenwriting Grant to Mora Stephens for her script Made in the USA.
The Hearst Screenwriting Grant of $15,000 is given to a mid-career screenwriter who has been a practicing writer for at least five years and who has previously written a minimum of one feature screenplay.

“Ay Ayeng” and “Baler” were the top winners at the 57th Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) ceremony.
“Ay Ayeng,” a film about two friends who returned to the Cordilleras to help deliver their families and the community from poverty, won five major awards, including, Best Director for Ed Palmos, Best Actress for Heart Evangelista, Best Child Actress for Jessica Mae Flores, Best Child Actor for Dominico Soriano, and Best Special Effects for Rolando Salem.
