The Producers Guild of America (PGA) announced that PRECIOUS: BASED ON THE NOVEL ‘PUSH’ BY SAPPHIRE will be honored with the 2010 Stanley Kramer Award. The film’s producers will be honored with the award at the 21st Annual PGA Awards ceremony on Sunday, January 24, 2010 at the Hollywood Palladium.

“Samson and Delilah"
“Samson and Delilah” winner of this year’s Cannes Film Festival Camera D’or award, won big at Inside Film Awards – the “people’s choice” awards of Australian film. “Samson and Delilah” the Aboriginal teenage love story, took home six awards, including best feature, best actor and best actress.

New Italian Cinema, presented by the San Francisco Film Society, the Italian Cultural Institute of San Francisco and New Italian Cinema Events of Florence, Italy, wrapped up an eight-day run dedicated to celebrating the rich cinematic tradition of Italy and bringing the country’s newest directors and films to audiences in San Francisco. Director Donatella Maiorca was on hand to accept the NICE City of Florence Award for her film Sea Purple (Viola di mare).

“The Beaches of Agnès”, a film by Agnès Varda, was recently announced as selection by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences of for the short-list Documentary Feature category. If nominated, it will be the first Oscar nomination for filmmaker/legend Agnès Varda, who at 81, has been making films for the past 50 years. Distributed by Cinema Guild, “The Beaches of Agnès” has received rave press during its theatrical release, including a 96% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and it is the best reviewed documentary of the year, according to Metacritic.

Norwegian freelance journalist Paal Refsdal, kidnapped a week ago in eastern Afghanistan was released Thursday along with his Afghan interpreter, the AP reported. Refsdal was in Afghanistan filming a documentary for a Norwegian production company with funding from the Norwegian Film Institute.
