My Sweet Misery

The indie comedy drama “My Sweet Misery” which filmed in South Carolina, opens today Friday in Asheville as part of the Carmike Cinemas’ Independent Film Series.

Set along the Carolina coast, “My Sweet Misery” focuses on Sam (Zach Hanks) and his unpredictable relationships with his sociopathic brother and with two women — one his past enemy and the other his potential savior. One of the women is played by Anna Chlumsky, the former child actress who starred in “My Girl.”

Erez Tadmor and Sharon Maymon’s Israeli comedy “A Matter of Size” is headed to US and Canada, thanks to Neil Friedman’s Menemsha Films.

The movie tells the story of an overweight Israeli chef who mutinies from the rigors of his diet support group to set up Israel’s first sumo wrestling team.

Land of the Lost movie Will Ferrell

Will Ferrell will star in director Dan Rush debut feature film – the indie ‘Everything Must Go’.

‘Everything Must Go’ is based on a story by the late Raymond Carver. Ferrell will play a guy who loses his job and gets locked out of the house by his wife. She deposits his belongings on the front lawn, and he spends the next four days trying to sell his possessions.

“Self Helpless” new independent comedy made in Vermont

The new independent comedy “Self Helpless” premiered tonight  at the Roxy in Burlington, Vermont.  Filmmakers and University of Vermont pals Patrick Simone, Patrick Cassidy, Andrick Deppmeyer and Adam Jaroszewski shot the picture for less than $10,000 on location in Vermont and Mexico .

Billed as a feature-length comedy targeted at males ages 18 to 30, especially college students, “Self Helpless” is about four scheming guys who try against all odds to better their lives with self-help books.

One of the hottest viral videos of the last year, Chloe and Keith’s Wedding, a funny 44 second clip of a bride getting knocked into a pool by the clumsy best man mid-ceremony, is a hoax.

Chloe and Keith are actors named Josh Covitt and Charissa Wheeler. They’re not married. The clip and its video follow-up are both part of a completely scripted independent film conceived by writer/director Archie Gips along with producing partner Dennis Anderson and executive producer Nancy Moonves (ex-wife of CBS chief Les Moonves). The pool the bride fell into? That was Nancy’s. It was filmed at her house.

Gentlemen Broncos, the latest comedy from director Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite) had its world premiere over the weekend at Fantastic Fest.

In the film, Benjamin (Michael Angarano), home-schooled by his eccentric mother (Jennifer Coolidge), is a loveable loner whose passion for writing leads him on an offbeat and hilarious journey as his story first gets ripped off by the legendary fantasy novelist, Ronald Chevalier (Jemaine Clement) and then is adapted into a disastrous movie by the small town’s most prolific homespun filmmaker.
