San Francisco Film Society and the Kenneth Rainin Foundation announced Amanda Micheli for Tomboy and Jeff Zimbalist for The Scribe of Urabá as the winners of the Fall 2009 $35,000 SFFS/KRF Filmmaking Grants, given to filmmakers for narrative feature films with social justice themes being made in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Rooftop Films announced the recipients of the 2009 Filmmakers’ Fund Feature Grants, created in partnership with Eastern Effects and Edgeworx Inc.
Rooftop Films supports independent and emerging filmmakers in a variety of ways, including by helping to produce new films through the Rooftop Filmmakers’ Fund. The goal of the fund is to help a diverse range of filmmakers create meaningful, personal, unique films. With funding coming from the community and support from local independent film companies, Rooftop Films grants help talented filmmakers with limited resources secure crucial production and post-production help from Eastern Effects and Edgeworx Inc. The generous contributions from these companies help worthy projects at crucial points in their production, ensuring that these vital films will be made and seen.

The San Francisco Film Society announced today the third round of filmmakers who have been awarded SFFS FilmHouse Residencies. This innovative program, developed in partnership with the San Francisco Film Commission and launched in November 2008, supports local independent filmmaking by making office space available free of charge to filmmakers actively engaged in various stages of film production. The newest recipients are all filmmakers working on nonfiction projects in postproduction stages, and they join a group of established residents working in many different styles and genres and in all stages of production. FilmHouse, part of the Film Society’s expanding filmmaker services programs, functions as a vibrant workshop and community builder for local filmmakers of all stripes.
