The doc drew an estimated 8.9 million viewers, NBC said. Fawcett, 62, was diagnosed in 2006 with anal cancer that has spread to her liver.

In related news, Craig Nevius, one of the producers on the documentary is suing the actress, Ryan O’Neal, and good friend Alana Stewart — claiming that all three physically threatened and “otherwise blocked him from any role in the documentary.”

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael S. Mink denied rapper Lil Wayne’s request for a preliminary injunction this week to block the release of QD3 Entertainment’s documentary “The Carter.” The Carter is a documentary about Dwayne Michael Carter Jr. aka Lil’ Wayne.

Lil Wayne sued QD3,  Quincy Jones III and Digerati Holdings last month, alleging that he was not allowed to exercise his right of approval over the contents of the film, which premiered earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival.

Rapper Lil Wayne filed a lawsuit Wednesday against film production companies Digerati Holdings and QD3 Entertainment over a “scandalous portrayal” of him in the 2009 Sundance Film Festival documentary film “The Carter.”  The lawsuit also includes Quincy Jones’ son, Quincy Delight Jones III as one of the defendants.

The lawsuit charges that the company failed as promised to give Lil Wayne approval over the final cut. And instead presented an attempted scandalous “documentary” at Sundance. Interestingly, the lawsuit include some reference to Bernie Maddoff.  [via: Radaronline]

The Carter is a documentary about Dwayne Michael Carter Jr. aka Lil’ Wayne. An internationally known rapper, his most recent album went platinum in a week, and he just might be the voice of his generation. But this ain’t no VH1 rock doc. Rather, it is an intoxicating, cinematic journey into the thoughts and world of an extremely complicated man whose creative force is something to behold. He never stops recording. He has a portable studio that he carries around in a black bag, and it allows him to lay down a track anytime anywhere. It is his pressure valve and makes him a refreshing anomaly in a sea of manufactured prefab “”singers.”" His work is his own: unfiltered, uncensored, raw, and powerful. Director Adam Bhala Lough, whose fiction film Weapons premiered in competition at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival, has unbelievable access to Lil’ Wayne’s public and private lives. He captures remarkably candid moments, such as Lil’ Wayne recounting his first sexual experience, as well as him talking openly about his drug habits. Following him all over the country and to Amsterdam, Lough mixes fly-on-the-wall footage of Lil’ Wayne in his hotel room and on his bus with artfully composed concert footage. The result is a shockingly intimate portrait of one of the most inspired (and eccentric) musicians of modern America. [via: Sundance Film Festival]

As if the Weinstein Company doesn’t have enough going on, now comes word that the “Nowhere Boy,” the planned film on John Lennon’s early life set for release in 2010, is facing legal issues over the book on which the movie is based.

The Weinstein Co.-distributed film, which is being directed by Sam Taylor-Wood and stars Kristin Scott Thomas and Aaron Johnson, is said to be based on the biography “Imagine This: Growing Up With My Brother John Lennon,” written by his sister, Julia Baird published in 2007

However, way much earlier, in the late 1980’s, Julia Baird collaborated with Geoffrey Giuliano on another book “John Lennon, My Brother.”

Giuliano has accused Baird of basing her biography on his previous research into Lennon’s life and is now claiming he’s entitled to 50% of her earnings from the picture.

“More than half the material in the book is a result of my research,” Guliano told the website. “Additional information in ‘Imagine This’ was uncovered by me in my original research. I was the person who conceptualised the original book.”
