Adam Yauch is feeling “healthy, strong and hopeful” that he has beaten cancer, the Beastie Boys member shared in a message to fans this week as reported by the Washington Post. Yauch is also the owner of the film production and distribution company  Oscilloscope Pictures, releasing such films as the Michelle Williams’ Wendy and Lucy and the basketball documentary Gunnin’ for That #1 Spot, which Yauch himself directed.

Actress Mo’Nique was again a no-show at the New York Film Festival screening of “Precious” where it received a rare standing ovation. According to reports, after promising to attend the festival premiere of ‘Precious,’ Mo’Nique decided she was not being paid enough to attend.

Last night the excuse given was that it was the birthday of her toddler twins.  Her publicist Tresa Sanders reportedly quit right after announcing her client wouldn’t be making it to the film festival.

Louie Psihoyos, director of the award-winning documentary “The Cove” plans to attend the film screening at the Tokyo International Film Festival but he could be arrested.

Japanese police say Psihoyos, who is also a National Geographic photographer, and other members of his crew violated trespassing laws when they documented the hunt in the seaside town of Taiji, where 2,000 dolphins are killed every year, mostly to be sold as meat.

Gerald Green and Patricia Green, Los Angeles-area film executives, were found guilty late last Friday of conspiracy to violate the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and money laundering laws of the United States, as well as substantive violations of the FCPA and U.S. money laundering laws in relation to a sophisticated bribery scheme that enabled the defendants to obtain a series of Thai government contracts, including valuable contracts to manage and operate Thailand’s yearly film festival, announced Assistant Attorney General of the Criminal Division Lanny A. Breuer and Acting U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California George S. Cardona.

Patricia Green was also found guilty of falsely subscribing U.S. income tax returns in connection with this scheme. The Greens were found guilty by a federal jury in the Central District of California on Friday, Sept. 11, 2009, after a two-and-a-half week trial.

Canadian actress Lisa Ray reveals she has incurable cancer

LisaRayCanadian actress Lisa Ray, who starred in the films “Bollywood/Hollywood” and the Oscar-nominated best foreign language film “Water,”  announced on her blog this week  she has incurable cancer.

Ray revealed that she was diagnosed on June 23, and began chemotherapy treatment within days for multiple myeloma, a cancer of the blood cells within bone marrow.

She has two films at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival. “Cooking With Stella,” a new comedy by director Dilip Mehta, and  Peter Stebbings’ “Defendor,” which stars Woody Harrelson and Kat Dennings.

Veteran Australian actor Ray Barrett, last seen on screen as Nicole Kidman’s father in Australia, has died at the age of 82, his agent has confirmed. He died in hospital from a brain haemorrhage after falling over at home, his agent Jane Cameron said.

Lucy Punch has replaced actress Nicole Kidman in the new Woody Allen film. The British actress, a relative unknown, who starred on the CBS series “The Class” and had roles in “Hot Fuzz” and “Ella Enchanted,” reportedly wowed the writer-director with a screen test. Punch joins Antonio Banderas, Freida Pinto, Naomi Watts, Josh Brolin and Anthony Hopkins in the untitled project.
