Onerock Moving Pictures screened an intimate sneak peek of their documentary Dressed to New York’s tastemakers and press at the ultra posh Soho House members’ club and hotel in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District in New York City on September 10, 2009 that coincided during the same evening of the shopping extravaganza appropriately called Fashion’s Night Out and New York Fashion Week.
Dressed is the documentary about Laotian-American fashion designer, Nary Manivong, who defies the odds of a broken childhood and homelessness to follow his dream of showing his collection at New York’s Fashion Week and launching his brand.

Rainbow Media, owner of IFC Films, will distribute Don Argott’s documentary “The Art of the Steal” in the US through its its new theatrical and video-on-demand label Sundance Selects. The film recently premiered at the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival and will have its US premiere at the 2009 New York Film Festival which kicks off later this week.

On September 17, Amazon Watch hosted the Hollywood premiere of CRUDE, an inspiring film about Chevron’s $27 billion lawsuit in Ecuador by award-winning filmmaker, Joe Berlinger. Over 350 supporters attended the sold-out benefit.
Many attendees vowed to support efforts to compel Chevron to clean up its oil pollution in the Ecuadorian Amazon. The film is showing at the Nuart Theater in Los Angeles thru September 24 and opening soon in more than 40 cities nationwide.

An unprecedented global film event, the eco-premiere of the critically hailed documentary THE AGE OF STUPID will be broadcast live from New York City’s World Financial Center on Monday, September 21 to more than 700 locations in over 50 countries simultaneously, uniting nearly one million people for climate change reform during Climate Week NYC, setting a new Guinness World Record for the largest single screen shared audience experience ever.
The event will kick off with a green carpet bicycle-powered performance by Moby and will culminate with an acoustic act from Radiohead’s Thom Yorke.

The full trailer for “Michael Jackson’s This Is It,” the documentary film that tells the story of the development of what would have been Michael Jackson’s farewell concerts at London’s O2 Arena premiered last night at the MTV Video Music Awards. The film, which comes out on October 28 for limited two-week engagement, will feature never-before-seen footage of Jackson rehearsing, performing and interacting with the army of dancers, singers, musicians and production staff who were working towards making the “This Is It” concerts one of the biggest spectacles in history.

Oliver Stone, who recently finished shooting his documentary about Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, said on Monday that he plans on making a documentary film about Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. The Oscar winning director said he is in talks with the Iranian government on the project.
Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez, is reportedly “considering” attending the Venice Film Festival premiere of the Oliver Stone documentary “South of the Border.”

Controversial French filmmaker, Christian Poveda who recently made the documentary “La Vida Loca,” which follows the lives of members of El Salvador’s La 18 street gang, was killed on Wednesday. He was 52 years old.
Police reportedly found Poveda’s body inside a car in a Tonacatepeque, rural region north of the Salvadoran capital. He had been shot in the head.

ESPN Films is announcing eight additional films and filmmakers for its ambitious “30 for 30″ film project, bringing the total of films announced thus far to 25. The filmmakers include Morgan Freeman and Lori McCreary (Revelations Entertainment), Ice Cube, Academy Award winner Alex Gibney (Taxi to the Dark Side), Academy Award nominee Frank Marshall, John Singleton, Al Szymanski, and the trios of Spike Jonze, Johnny Knoxville and Jeff Tremaine (d*ckhouse Productions), and Steve Michaels, Joel Surnow and Jonathan Koch (Asylum Entertainment). These noted directors and producers will delve into sports stories of the past 30 years from unforgettable athletes, to NASCAR, soccer and the 2003 Chicago Cubs. Debuting in October 2009, “30 for 30″ will gather 30 filmmakers to each create one-hour films on topics from 1979 to 2009, ESPN’s first 30 years.
Actor, rapper Ice Cube will direct the upcoming ESPN documentary entitled ” Straight outta L.A.” The documentary will follow Ice Cube as he brings to light how the Oakland Raiders, formally the L.A. raiders have played a big part in history and the Hip Hop community.
