Best Feature nominee "Amreeka"
The nominees for the 19th annual Gotham Independent Film Awards were announced yesterday by “At the Movies” co-host and New York Times theater critic A.O. Scott. The awards will be held Nov. 30 at the Cipriani Wall Street in New York.

Winner of the Venice Film Festival’s prestigious FIPRESCI International Critics Prize, ‘Goodbye Solo‘ is the latest film from internationally-acclaimed filmmaker Ramin Bahrani (’Chop Shop,’ ‘Man Push Cart’). ‘Goodbye Solo’ opens in Portland this week. Remaining cities include: May 10 Portland, OR Fox Tower, May 15 Atlanta Midtown Art Cinema, May 15 Austin, TX Arbor, May 15 St. Louis Tivoli Theater, June 14 Ojai, CA Ojai Theatre.

Goodbye Solo features the debut of new comer Souléymane Sy Savané as the title character Solo, a cheerful, thickly accented Senegalese cab driver who spends his nights driving fares around Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Solo’s Mexican wife, Quiera (Carmen Leyva) is on his case to get his act together, and their relationship is strained-despite the fact that they’re expecting their first child together, and that Solo has a loving relationship with Quiera’s daughter, Alex (Diana Franco Galindo).
