Sony Pictures Classics has reportedly picked up U.S. rights to Rodrigo Garcia’s ensemble drama “Mother and Child” that features strong performances from Annette Bening, Naomi Watts and Samuel L. Jackson. The film is centered around three women and the choices they’ve made concerning children, and is scheduled for a May 2010 opening.

Sam Jackson Signs Up For “Rape”

Samuel L. Jackson, Maria Bello, and Abigail Breslin have signed on to star in the new indie drama, “Rape: A Love Story.”  Based on the novella, by Joy Carol Oates, the story centers around a rape victim (Bello) and the policeman assigned to protect her (Jackson).  Breslin (”Little Miss Sunshine”) has been cast as Bello’s daughter, who witnesses the crime.  “Rape” will be directed by Harold Becker, who also directed “Domestic Disturbance” (another film which features Jackson as a police officer).  In addition to having experience acting a police officer, Jackson has also dealt with the issue of rape in previous films.  And we all remember how he feels about that…
