The winners of the festival’s film competition are: “CROSSING” by Kim Tae-kyun — Best Feature Film; “GARBAGE DREAMS” by Mai Iskander — Best Documentary; “SCENESTERS” by Todd Berger — Best Comedy; “STORIES FROM THE PERCH” by Andrew Zimbelman — Best Animation, “LAMBS” by Stephen Huff — Best Short Subject, “AS I LAY DYING - THE SOUND OF TRUTH” by Brian Thompson — Best Music Video.

Gabourey Sidibe in Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire
The 13th Annual Hollywood Film Festival and Hollywood Awards, presented by Starz, announced the honorees who will be recognized for their achievements at the festival’s Hollywood Awards Gala Ceremony.
Actress Carey Mulligan will receive the “Hollywood Breakthrough Actress Award,” actor Jeremy Renner will be honored with the “Hollywood Breakthrough Actor Award,” director Lee Daniels will receive the “Hollywood Breakthrough Director Award,” Gabourey Sidibe will receive the “New Hollywood Award,” and screenwriters Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber will be recognized with the “Hollywood Breakthrough Screenwriter Award.”
The gala ceremony will take place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills on October 26, 2009.

Oscar-winning film Smike Pinki” at Portland Women’s Film Festival

Oscar-winning “Smile Pinki,” directed by Megan Mylan (who was raised, in part, in Salem), will screen alongside “The Final Inch,” the Oscar-nominated film by Portland documentarian Irene Taylor-Brodsky (”Hear and Now“) at the Portland Women’s Film Festival.

Hollywood Film Festival Adds Comedy
The 13th annual Hollywood Film Festival, which runs Oct. 21-26 at the ArcLight Cinemas in Hollywood, is adding a Hollywood Comedy Film Festival component to its programming to highlight the comedy genre.

Jewish Film Festival in Rockland, NY Starts Tomorrow
The sixth annual film festival of the JCC Rockland will feature dramas, stand-up comedy and documentaries, including the Academy Award-nominated “Waltz with Bashir.”

The 12th Annual Hollywood Film Festival and Hollywood Awards, co-chaired by Paul Haggis and presented by Starz, have announced that producers Christopher Nolan, Charles Roven and Emma Thomas will be honored with the “Hollywood Producers of the Year Award,” and Academy Award-winning screenwriter John Patrick Shanley will receive the “Hollywood Screenwriter of the Year Award” at the festival’s Hollywood Awards Gala Ceremony.
The gala ceremony will take place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills on October 27, 2008.
The announcement was made today by Carlos de Abreu, Founder and Executive Director of the Hollywood Film Festival. “It is a great pleasure to recognize the extraordinary talent of Christopher Nolan, Charles Roven, Emma Thomas and John Patrick Shanley,” said Mr. de Abreu, “and to honor their remarkable achievements and contributions to filmmaking.”
