Twenty-three fiction films will compete at the 21st Malaysian Film Festival to be held at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre, beginning Aug 7.

Iranian film ‘Simply’ directed by Reza Mirkarimi will be screened in the 24th Boston Film Festival from November 14-30. The film depicts a day in the life of a woman from a middle class family and won the ‘White Elephant Award in the Moscow International Film Festival.

Oscar winner, Anjelica Huston has canceled her appearance at this year’s 61st Locarno Film Festival for “personal reasons,” where her film “Choke” makes its international premiere.

The feature-length documentary, Next Exit, Main Street, will screen as a part of the Gloria Film Festival on Friday, August 1, 2008 at 7:30 PM at the Utah Cultural Celebration Center. This uplifting documentary follows the filmmakers’ journey from coast to coast exploring American Identity against the backdrop of the nation’s social and political polarization.

The first annual Utah’s High Adventure Mountain Film Festival will launch September 18-21, 2008 at the historic Peery’s Egyptian Theater and the David Eccles Conference Center in downtown Ogden, Utah.

Iranian family drama film “So Simple” won the Best Film Golden George at the 30th Moscow International Film Festival (MIFF). The film, which was screened in MIFF under the title of “As Simple as That”, was also awarded the Prize of Russian Film Critics Jury. “So Simple” depicts a day in the life of Tahereh (Hengameh Qaziani), a woman from a middle class family in Iran.

MIFF special jury prize, a Silver George, was awarded to French filmmaker Marion Laine for his “The Simple Heart” and Bulgarian helmer Javor Gardev received the Best Director Silver George for “Zift”.

Richard Jenkins won the Best Actor Silver George for his role in “The Visitor”, a film by the U.S. director Tom McCarthy and the Best Actress Silver George went to Margherita Buy for her role in “Days and Clouds”, joint production of Italy and Switzerland.

The third day of the 30th Jubilee MIFF

Saturday at the Moscow International Film Festival was marked by the beginning of non-competitive demonstration of Russian movie program, which will take place in large scale in honor of the 30th jubilee. The viewers will see more that 120 new and old films of native origin. “ it’s vitally important, so that the viewer doesn`t loose interest concerning his native cinematography and therefore as a result became the motor of cinematographic process”,- said the MIFF president Nikita Mikhalkov.
