The Academy Foundation of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has awarded $450,000 to 24 U.S. film festivals for the 2010 calendar year, Festival Grants Committee Chair Buffy Shutt announced on Wednesday.

Terror Film Festival is an international film festival that nurtures new and upcoming genre filmmakers and screenwriters who are the next Hitchcock, Romero, Rob Zombie, Robert Rodriguez, George Lucas, M. Night Shyamalan, Steven Spielberg, Orson Welles, Hammer Films, etc. The festival has been labeled by the press as “one of the most theatrical events in the industry with incredible showmanship”, and they offer over $15,000 in cash and prizes, free promotion, and the coveted Claw Awards. Purple Violet Student Film Festival
The Purple Violet Student Film Festival at Kean University is accepting short film submissions!
The Purple Violet Student Film Festival at Kean University is dedicated to the encouragement and recognition of emerging filmmakers. The one-day Festival features the screening of student short films in four unique categories (Comedic, Animation, Dramatic and Documentary) and a New Jersey High School Public Service Announcement Video Contest.
Special Guest Artist Emily Hubley will be screening and discussing her latest feature The Toe Tactic.
Selected works will be presented at Kean University on April 16, 2009. The four winners will each be awarded a cash prize of $250.

Broad Humor Film Festival
The Fourth Annual Broad Humor Film Festival is accepting screenplay submissions in three length categories: Under 20 pages, 20 to 60 pages, and over 60 pages. Broad Humor celebrates film comedies written and directed by women so screenplays should be submitted by female writers only. Dramedies are accepted as long as the script has lots of laughs or “smile moments” important to the story. Early (postmark) deadline is March 7; late deadline is May 9.
The Broad Humor Film Festival takes place June 12-14, 2009, at the Electric Lodge Performing Arts Center in Venice and includes screenplay readings as well as film screenings. [via]

Outfest, the Los Angeles-based nonprofit organization dedicated to nurturing, showcasing and protecting lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) media, has announced an innovative and diverse programming lineup for Outfest 2008: The 26th Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Film Festival. The nation’s leading LGBTQ festival and the oldest continuously running film festival in the city will be held July 9 to 21, 2008, one day longer than previous years. In addition to the 212 films from 25 countries, Outfest hosts over a dozen panels and special events and nearly 50 parties, for more than 50,000 attendees at eight venues across Los Angeles including West Hollywood, Hollywood, Santa Monica and Downtown.
Among the impressive list of films and Hollywood celebrities involved with this year’s festival, notable events include: Outfest 2008 Achievement Award presentation to Emmy winning writer-director Donna Deitch; Laurie Lynd’s heartwarming feature, “Breakfast with Scot” starring Tom Cavanagh (“Ed”) and Ben Shenkman (“Angels in America”) as the Opening Night Gala film; and Stewart Wade’s new star-studded film “Tru Loved” as the Closing Night Gala film.
