SECOND EDITION OF THE TVE “OTRA MIRADA” AWARD

On September 25th 2008, the Jury, consisting of Inés París, Arantxa Urretabizkaia and Montse Abbad, has decided to grant the TVE “OTRA MIRADA” Award to the “FROZEN RIVER” a film by director Courtney Hunt included in the Official Selection of the San Sebastian Film Festival in its 56th edition.
The film is a magnificent portrait of two female characters, removed far from any stereotypes, who struggle in the face of adversity, finding very original methods and daring solutions to the problems they face as individuals and mothers.
In a society that still allows women who are the sole providers of their families to live in borderline misery, even in the so-called developed countries, the film uses humour and intelligence to convey the two women’s ability to find bonds that reach beyond their differences.
