The Academy Foundation of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has awarded $450,000 to 24 U.S. film festivals for the 2010 calendar year, Festival Grants Committee Chair Buffy Shutt announced on Wednesday.

Academy Grants $50,000 to Telluride Film Festival

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has awarded a $50,000 grant to underwrite the 2009 Telluride Film Festival’s Guest Director program, this year featuring the director and Oscar®-winning screenwriter of “Sideways,” Alexander Payne.

“It’s very gratifying for the Academy to be able to support this program, especially at a time when arts funding is so critical,” said Academy President Tom Sherak. “That the festival has chosen one of our members, and a former governor, as guest director simply enriches this year’s gift.”

2009 Oscar Night® America party to benefit the Waterfront Film Festival!

The Waterfront Film Festival received the stamp of approval from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to host an official Oscar-night party on Feb. 22, 2009. The party will be one of only three in the Midwest, along with events in Detroit and Chicago.

So if you are in the area, celebrate cinema and Michigan movie magic when Oscar Night® America and the Waterfront Film Festival come together for the 81st Annual Academy Awards®.
