2009 Asheville Film Festival picks winners

Now in its seventh year, the Asheville Film Festival featured 93 films and screenplays. The festival winners were announced Saturday night. “16 to Life”, the first feature from Emmy-nominated writer/director Becky Smith (Queer Eye for the Straight Guy) took home the top prize for Best Feature Film. The film puts a wry, witty, and unpredictable ensemble cast in a small-town locale reminiscent of a Capra comedy. Before the clock strikes midnight, Kate, a 16-year-old rural American teenager, will learn what she has in common with a 16-year-old Chinese girl half a world, and a cultural revolution away.
