Waterville welcomes back Maine International Film Festival

Maine International Film Festival opened Friday evening with a flood of film fans who filled the Waterville Opera House in anticipation of the first offering: “Man on Wire.”

“Man on Wire” is a film about Philippe Petit, a high-wire walker who in 1974 impressed the world and a child from Winslow by walking a wire strung between the dual towers of the World Trade Center.

MIFF will show a variety of films at Waterville Opera House and Railroad Square Cinema through Sunday, July 20.

Other films being shown include “The Betrayal,” “The Big Combo,” “Skills Like These,” “Charly,” “A Secret,” “Do the Right Thing,” “A Sense of Wonder,” “Owning the Weather,” “Soccer Shorts,” “Romance and Cigarettes,” “The Little Red Truck,” “Illuminata,” “The Big Lebowski” and “The Meaning of Tea.”
