The 15th San Francisco Documentary Festival (SF DocFest) taking place June 2 to 16, 2016., kicks off with IT AIN’T PRETTY, the story of local female big-wave surfers, and wraps with SILICON COWBOYS, about the early days of the personal computer revolution.
IT AIN’T PRETTY is a documentary about the challenges and triumphs of female big wave surfers fighting sexism in the water, in competition, in the media and in the surf industry with the support of a closely-knit community of like-minded women
Directed by Oscar®-nominated director Jason Cohen, SILICON COWBOYS offers a fresh look at the explosive rise of the 1980’s PC industry, Compaq’s three maverick founders, and is a refreshing alternative to the familiar hagiographic narratives of Jobs, Gates, and Zuckerberg.
This year the festival will honor self-distributing documentary phenomenon SEAN DUNNE with the Non-Fiction Vanguard Award by showing one of his features and a series of his recent short films.
