The music video for Mark Pritchard’s Beautiful People, a buoyant and elegiac record featuring vocals by Radiohead’s Thom Yorke will make its world premiere at Sundance NEXT FEST, taking place August 12 to 14.
The video for Beautiful People will precede the Los Angeles premiere of Under the Shadow on Sunday, August 14, in the 4 p.m. slot. Pritchard, a British electronic musician and producer, dropped “Beautiful People” in March of this year ahead of the release of his LP Under the Sun in May.
Polish filmmaker Michal Marczak, whose atmospheric and intoxicating documentary All These Sleepless Nights took home the Directing Award for World Cinema Documentary at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival, directs the music video. That film embraces a nomadic cinematic vision that is eerily similar to the sonic direction of “Beautiful People,” and perhaps provides a sense of the origins of the collaboration. The music video is described as follows:
Isolated and alone, a wandering stranger from another world finds himself stranded. Surrounded by an unforgiving – yet hypnotically breathtaking – landscape, we inquiringly watch as he makes his way. Who he is, where he’s from or why he is here is unknown, but what we do know is his time is running out. Our stranger’s curiosity is mesmerizing. We watch as he explores the planet’s mountains and rocks; crushing fundamental laws of nature along the way.
