Career Opportunities in Organized Crime, billed as the first ever feature-length film shot with 360-degree virtual reality cameras, is set for release on August 31st.
The film, by first-time filmmaker Alex Oshmyansky and Akibimi Productions, LLC, is a “mocku-mentary” that follows the filming of a recruitment video for the Russian mafia. It was shot both as a conventional movie and simultaneously with 360-degree virtual reality cameras.

The movie is intended to be viewed within “virtual reality headsets” such as Google Cardboard, Oculus Rift, or the HTC Vive. It places the viewer actually inside of the movie, with the characters in the film all around the viewer acting out each scene. For comparison, the film was shot simultaneously as a convention film which can be shown in a theater or on TV.

According to Oshmyansky, “The film is a an experiment to see what kind of experience a feature-length virtual reality film would be. I’m obviously biased, but I think it turned out great. The film is a whole new kind of cinematic experience that hasn’t existed before.”
