14 feature documentaries and a short documentary package are among the fifth wave of films added to the 2016 lineup of the Calgary International Film Festival.

Topics range from missile maintenance, to obituaries, to Finnish cheerleaders. Meanwhile, hockey enforcers, Inuit seal hunters and Ukrainian ballet dancers all reveal the struggles and victories in their individual lives, showcasing the power documentary film has to change the way people see the world. This year, the CIFF Documentary Series includes two World Premieres.

The Calgary International Film Festival also announced a special presentation – Behind the Screen: In Conversation:Documentary Filmmaking, that will be sure to delight aspiring filmmakers and environmental crusaders alike. BUGS ON THE MENU (this year’s Green Carpet Gala selection) filmmakers Ian Toews & Mark Bradley, along with ICE GUARDIANS filmmaker Adam Scorgie will share what it takes to make a documentary film.
