Florence Foster Jenkins, starring actress Meryl Streep along with British actor Hugh Grant will screen at the upcoming Cairo International Film Festival taking place November 15 to 24 2016.

The film, set in New York in 1944, narrates the story of Florence Foster Jenkins, a New York City heiress and socialite born in 1868 who founds a Social Club called “Verdi”. Despite experts considering she has a poor voice, she dreams of becoming an Opera singer, and finds a way to perform at the Carnegie Hall. Using her wealth and her husband’s influence, she will turn the performance into a farce.

This is the second auto biographical movie directed by Stephen Frears after the movie The Queen for which he was nominated at the Academy Award for Best Director, and earned the star of the movie Helen Mirren an Academy Award for Best Actress in 2007.

Meryl Streep is expected to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress for this role.

Meryl Streep is known for being the most nominated actress at the Academy Award with 19 nominations between 1979 and 2015, and won 3 Oscars: Best Supporting Actress for her role in Kramer vs. Kramer (1979) and Best Actress for Sophie’s Choice (1982) and The Iron Lady (2011).

The movie will make his MENA premiere during Cairo International Festival, and will be released in the rest of the region on January 7th, 2017.
