With exactly three weeks to go until it kicks into full gear, the Whistler Film Festival continues to turn up the heat announcing Oscar winning director John Madden as the guest of honor at its Variety Contender Conversation on December 1st. Madden will receive WFF’s Maverick Award for Directing, which shines a light on a master in the industry whose bold choices have led to the creation of some of the most dynamic, memorable and beloved film moments of our time. Known for directing SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE (1998), which won the Academy Award for Best Picture, he has gained more recent recognition for directing THE BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL (2011) and its sequel THE SECOND BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL (2015). Madden is attending the festival with the Canadian premiere of MISS SLOANE.

“We are thrilled to have master director John Madden join us for the Canadian premiere of MISS SLOANE and as a guest of honor for the Variety Contender Conversation,” said Paul Gratton, WFF’s Director of Programming. “Our Stars to Watch program is part of our ongoing commitment to promoting Canadian cinema and talent, each representing a diverse group of actors, each carving his or her own path in the industry with unique projects that will surely make audiences take notice. They are in great company along with the 75 Canadian artists selected for our 12 talent programs.”
