Moonlight directed by Barry Jenkins, was named best film of 2016 by the National Society of Film Critics.  The film also won the awards for best director for Barry Jenkins, best supporting actor for Mahershala Ali, and cinematography for James Laxton.

The Romanian film Sieranevada directed by Cristi Puiu won a Special Citation for a film awaiting American distribution, and Kino Lorber’s 5-disc collection “Pioneers of African-American Cinema” won the Film Heritage Award.
