Emmanuelle Riva, French actress who was nominated for an Academy Award for best actress in 2013 for her role in “Amour, has died. She was 89.
Riva died on Friday afternoon in Paris.
Amour, Michael Haneke’s 2013 Oscar-winning drama, follows an elderly couple facing their greatest challenge yet. Georges and Anne are in their eighties. They are cultivated, retired music teachers. Their daughter, who is also a musician, lives abroad with her family. One day, Anne has an attack. The couple’s bond of love is severely tested.
She worked into last year, shooting in Iceland for Alma, and will next appear in Paris Pieds Nus (Paris Barefoot), being released in France in March.
