ArtMattan Films, the film distribution arm of ArtMattan Productions acquired the award winning coming-of-age drama The Last Tree by Shola Amoo which premiered at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival as the World Cinema – Dramatic Opening Night film. The Last Tree is Shola Amoo second feature length film after A Moving Image (2017).

The Last Tree just scooped two wins for Best Supporting Actress and Most Promising Newcomer at the British Independent Film Award. It is currently screening in festivals in the USA and Canada and will start it’s US theatrical run in Spring 2020, before getting a digital and home-video release.

The film follows the story of Femi, a British boy of Nigerian heritage who, after a happy childhood in rural Lincolnshire, moves to inner London to live with his mum. Struggling with the unfamiliar culture and values of his new environment, teenage Femi has to figure out which path to adulthood he wants to take, and what it means to be a young black man in London.
