Kobe Bryant

Basketball superstar Kobe Bryant along with his daughter Gianna Maria Onore — aka GiGi, died Sunday morning in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California. Kobe was 41. As first reported by TMZ, and confirmed by CNN, nine people were killed the crash on a hillside in Calabasas.

The sheriff’s department received reports of the downed aircraft just after 1 p.m. ET (10 a.m PT), officials said in a tweet.

There were no survivors, the Los Angeles County Fire Department said. TMZ is also reporting that Kobe’s daughter Gianna Maria Onore — aka GiGi — was also on board the helicopter and died in the crash … reps for Kobe tell TMZ Sports. She was 13.

John Altobelli, Keri Altobelli and Alyssa Altobelli

John Altobelli was the head baseball coach at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa. His wife Keri and their daughter Alyssa were also on board.

Christina Mauser

Mauser was a basketball coach at Harbor Day School in Newport Beach, where Kobe’s daughter attended school. 

Sarah Chester and Payton Chester

Sarah Chester and her middle school aged daughter Payton were on also on board. Payton was a teammate of Gianna Bryant’s.

Ara Zobayan

The helicopter was piloted by Ara Zobayan. According to the FAA, he received his commercial pilot certificate in 2007.

Bryant won an Academy Award in 2018 for producing and writing the short film “Dear Basketball,” which was an animated adaptation of his own poem.
