The Cambodian drama film In the Life of Music, selected as the Cambodian entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 92nd Academy Awards, released the official trailer ahead of the release on VOD starting August 14th. Co-directed by Caylee So and Sok Visal, the film world premiered at the 2018 Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival.

In the Life of Music tells the story of how one song “Champa Battambang,” made famous by Sinn Sisamouth (the King of Khmer Music), plays a role in the lives of three different generations. It is a powerful intergenerational tale that weaves its way through 3 different decades, depicting the lives of people whose world is inevitably transformed by the emergence of the Khmer Rouge Regime.T

The film follows the journey of Hope, a young American girl visiting her relatives in Cambodia for the first time. Determined to learn the history of her parents, Hope discovers the story of how “Champa Battambang” played an integral part of three generations. Starting with how her parents met and fell in love in 1968, to their fight for survival during the war-torn Khmer Rouge years of the 1970’s and finally finishing in the modern day with Hope getting the answers she has longed for.
