Visar Morina’s Exile (Exil) which had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival will represent Kosovo in the International Feature Film category of the 93rd Academy Awards. Exile also screened at the Berlin International Film Festival and the Sarajevo Film Festival where the film won the top prize, the Heart of Sarajevo award.

The film stars Misel Maticevic, Sandra Huller (Toni Erdmann), Rainer Bock, Thomas Mraz, and Flonja Kodheli; and tells the story of Xhafer, a Kosovo-born pharmaceutical engineer living in Germany, who suddenly feels discriminated against and bullied at work because of his ethnic background. As he loses his job, his wife and his family, he walks a delicate tightrope between his life as an integrated, middle-class family man, and foreigner in his adopted country.

Exile (Exil) will be the second film by Visar Morina that Kosovo submits as the official candidate for the Oscars, following Babai in 2016.
