Drive My Car directed by Ryusuke Hamaguchi

The New York Film Critics Circle named Ryusuke Hamaguchi’s Drive My Car, the Best Film of 2021, however, the Power of the Dog was the big winner taking the honor of Best Director for Jane Campion, Best Actor for Benedict Cumberbatch and Best Supporting Actor for Kodi Smit-McPhee.

Best Foreign Language Film went to The Worst Person in the World by byJoachim Trier; Flee directed by Jonas Poher Rasmussen won Best Non-Fiction Film and Best First Film went to The Lost Daughter directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal.

A special awards were given to Maya Cade for the creation of the Black Film Archive, Marshall Fine for his years of service as NYFCC’s General Manager and decades on the NY film scene and Diane Weyermann, posthumous award for supporting daring and impactful filmmaking at Sundance and Participant.

The winners will be honored at a ceremony on January 11, 2022 in New York City.
