Talk to Me directed by Danny & Michael Philippou official trailer and US release date
Talk to Me directed by Danny & Michael Philippou

A24 debuted the official trailer for Talk to Me, the supernatural horror film starring Sophie Wilde as a woman who becomes obsessed with the supernatural following a séance with an embalmed hand.

Also starring in the horror flock are Miranda Otto, Alexandra Jensen, Joe Bird, Otis Dhanji, Zoe Terakes, and Chris Alosio.

Directed by twin filmmaker brothers Danny & Michael Philippou (known for YouTube channel RackaRacka) making their feature directorial debut, Talk to Me world premiered at Sundance Film Festival, and opens in theaters with a release date of July 28, 2023.

When a group of friends discover how to conjure spirits using an embalmed hand, they become hooked on the new thrill, until one of them goes too far and unleashes terrifying supernatural forces.

There is a lot of buzz around this film, however, Variety in its review from Sundance Film Festival, called it “unexpectedly straight-faced if uneven drama of supernatural peril,” writing, “Still, the main complaint here is that the elements are in place for “Talk to Me” to be truly creepy, shocking and mind-bending — it’s just a disappointment they’re not quite smartly executed enough to be all that, as opposed to merely entertaining. As recent mainstream-ish horror entries go, that result is still a cut above average. Welcome resistance to rote jump-scares and a sleek, handsome visual aesthetic, along with solidly professional package contributions down the line, suggest the Philippous are fast learners who’ve already put their prankster days behind them.”

Most reviews were pretty decent, with strong opinions on the ending, with Deadline writing, “As is often the case with Australian horror, the filmmakers stick to their guns throughout, which means that, instead of neatly wrapping things up in a last-minute sell-out, the ending is admirably dark (with echoes of the original 1992 Candyman). There is a sense, however, that this may not really be the end. After all, we only see one embalmed hand, and, as one character sagely notes, “The other one’s out there… somewhere.””
