Big Apple Film Festival, named one of MovieMaker Magazine’s top “25 Film Festivals Worth The Entry Fee”, “25 Coolest Film Festivals”, and Film Freeway’s “Top 100 Best Reviewed Festivals”, is dedicated to showcasing and promoting the highest quality films from the New York City independent film community, as well as additional specially selected films from across the country and around the world. Additionally, the festival is proud to honor a variety of New York City based filmmakers, writers, actors and artists who have played an influential role in the growth of independent filmmaking in the Big Apple. Each year BAFF presents awards in a variety of categories including Best Feature Film, Short Film, Short Documentary, Feature Documentary, Animation, NYC Cityscape Award, Student Film Award, Golden Apple Award, and NY Emerging Talent Award.

“Sicilian Vampire” Starring James Caan, Daryl Hannah, Paul Sorvino Opens NYC Big Apple Film Festival | TRAILER
Frank D’Angelo’s fourth feature film, Sicilian Vampire, has been chosen as an opening night feature at this year’s New York City Big Apple Film Festival which runs November 4th to 7th, 2015. Written, directed and produced by Frank D’Angelo, Sicilian Vampire stars James Caan, Daryl Hannah, Paul Sorvino, Robert Loggia, Armand Assante, Robert Davi, Michael Paré, Eric Roberts, Daniel Baldwin, Tony Nardi and Frank D’Angelo. Sicilian Vampire is equal parts Goodfellas and Dusk till Dawn. It tells the story of reputed mobster Sonny Trafficante who was hoping to get away to the family hunting lodge for a little rest and relaxation and create some memories. Instead what he got was a night he will never forget. From there we’re taken on a journey of action, suspense and drama that can only come from the mind of Frank D’Angelo. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32QqR4TwZk8 Frank D’Angelo has written, produced, directed and acted in a total of four feature films in the last three years and is now in preproduction of his fifth film, The Red Maple Leaf, which is scheduled to begin shooting later this fall. His other films include Real Gangsters (the story of the Lo Giacomo family, one of the most successful crime syndicates in New York City), which is currently in worldwide release on Video-On-Demand networks. Another, The Big Fat Stone (a story of a homeless man who, simply by being at the right place at the right time, gets a chance at a new life), is now on VOD worldwide. And No Deposit (a story about a family man, who falls from grace through a series of downward spiraling events beyond his control), has been in theatres in Canada and USA and is available on Video on Demand.

Big Apple Film Festival Unveils 2014 Lineup; Opens with MANHATTAN ROMANCE, Katherine Waterson and Jerry Stiller To Receive Awards
MANHATTAN ROMANCE
The 11th annual Big Apple Film Festival (BAFF) running November 5 to 9 at the Tribeca Cinemas in New York City, announced its lineup of 129 feature-length and short films. The Big Apple Film Festival will commence on November 5th with the opening night film MANHATTAN ROMANCE, written and directed by Tom O’Brien (Fairhaven), who also stars in the film opposite Katherine Waterston (Inherent Vice), Gaby Hoffmann (Transparent), and Caitlin Fitzgerald (Masters of Sex). Following the screening Katherine Waterston, who recently appeared as the lead actress in Paul Thomas Anderson’s Inherent Vice, will accept the festival’s prestigious “Emerging Talent” award. Previous winners include Mike Vogel, Jesse Eisenberg, Louisa Krause and Aaron Stanford.
The festival will present its “Golden Apple Award” to actor/comedian Jerry Stiller. Best known for his role as Frank Constanza on Seinfeld, Jerry Stiller stars in SIMPLER TIMES, premiering at BAFF on November 8th. Previous “Golden Apple Award” winners include Cuba Gooding Jr, Morgan Spurlock, Anthony Bregman and Alan Cumming. Other highlights of this year’s festival will include Q & A’s with filmmakers and actors, as well as networking events, filmmaker receptions and a closing night award ceremony.

BREAD AND BUTTER directed by Liz Manishil and starring Lauren Lapkus (Jurassic World, Are You Here, Orange is the New Black, Blended), Eric Lange, Harry Groener and Bobby Moynihan(Saturday Night Live, Monsters University).
FLOATING SUNFLOWERS directed by Francisco Solorzano and starring Anna Chlumsky (Veep), and Lynn Cohen (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire).
SIMPLER TIMES directed by Steve Monarque and starring Jerry Stiller (King of Queens), Amy Stiller (Tropic Thunder) and Anne Meara (Rhoda).
AUSTIN TO BOSTON directed by Marcus Haney and produced by Ben Lovett of Mumford and Sons.
THE WISDOM TO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE directed by and starring Daniel Baldwin (Vampires), along with Lou Diamond Phillips (Courage Under Fire).

10th Big Apple Film Festival Kicks Off on November 6; Announces 2013 Lineup

The Big Apple Film Festival (BAFF) announced its lineup of 184 feature-length and short films for its 10th anniversary edition, taking place November 6 – 10, 2013, at the Tribeca Cinemas. The Big Apple Film Festival will commence with the opening night film JAKE SQUARED, starring Elias Koteas, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Virginia Madsen, Jane Seymour and Mike Vogel, on Wednesday, November 6 at 8 pm. Following the screening, Mike Vogel, star of CBS’s hit series Under the Dome, will accept the festival’s prestigious “Emerging Talent” award. Previous winners include Jesse Eisenberg, Louisa Krause and Aaron Stanford.
Other highlights of this year’s festival include a special screening of LIFE OF A KING on Saturday, November 9 at 7:15 pm, followed by a Q&A with the film’s star Cuba Gooding Jr. The festival will then present NYC native Gooding Jr. with an honorary “Golden Apple Award”. Previous “Golden Apple Award” winners include Morgan Spurlock, Anthony Bregman and Alan Cumming.

SYNOPSIS: On the eve of a looming family reunion, Christian’s estranged father unexpectedly shows up at his door asking for help. Despite abandoning the family at the onset of his wife’s terminal illness , Dr. Lynn claims he can justify his nine-year absence. Christian reluctantly agrees to escort his father into a hostile family environment, but his grief-fueled drug addiction sends an already tense family dynamic reeling.

SYNOPSIS: This is the story of a 12-year-old girl working hard to overcome a troubling past and accept and embrace the love and possibility that now surround her. Born as Brianna to a drug-addicted mother, she and her baby brother lived in harrowing conditions before being adopted by a young couple fully invested in raising their children to be whole, happy and strong.
Additionally, this year’s festival will include an array of short film programs as well, including “THE MAGIC BRACELET” starring James Van Der Beek, JK Simmons and Bailee Madison, “37” (2013 Slamdance Film Festival), “THE WORST THINGS I’VE EVER DONE” starring Campbell Scott, and “NATE AND VINNIE” starring Matthew Stadelmann and Gaetano Iacono, as well as a total of 20 short film blocks, animation, experimental and our annual Student Film Section.
