California Film Institute’s DocPitch 2025 has selected five documentary projects currently in development or post-production as the winners of a total of $100,000 in funding. Black Public Media (BPM) selected a documentary about caregiving with comedy and two science fiction immersive projects for a total of $225,000 in production and development funding at the 2025 PitchBLACK Awards.
Apple Original Films debuted the official trailer for Bono: Stories of Surrender, the film based on singer Bono’s celebrated memoir, “Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story,” and the accompanying book/theatre tour.

Venice Immersive, the XR – Extended Reality section of the 81st Venice International Film Festival taking place August 28th – September 7th, 2024, will present 63 projects from 25 countries.
Cannes Film Festival revealed the eight projects presented in the new Immersive Competition including collective location-based virtual reality and mixed reality experiences, and projection mapping and holographic works. These carefully selected immersive works showcase the cutting edge of this new era in storytelling, challenging convention, embracing new technologies, and above all celebrating new artists as well as old.
Rosario Dawson narrates Soul Paint, the extended reality project from Hatsumi and Monobanda studios premiering as part of the XR Experience Competition at the 2024 SXSW festival. Debuting on Quest 2, the experience merges art and science to illustrate the infinite and complex networks of emotion and experience that live within all of us.
