Sundance Film Festival announced the lineup for the annual Beyond Film programming, a series of talks and events.
“Judas and the Black Messiah” was named the year’s Best Film of 2020 by the African American Film Critics Association (AAFCA), the world’s largest group of Black film critics. Night of the Kings won the honor of Best Foreign Film and Best Documentary went to All In: The Fight For Democracy.
“Nomadland” led the winners in the film categories at the 26th annual Critics Choice Awards, taking home four awards including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay for Chloé Zhao, and Best Cinematography for Joshua James Richards. Zhao is the first Chinese woman to win as either director or writer.
Chloe Zhao’s “Nomadland” won top movie honors at the 78th Golden Globe Awards taking the prizes for Best Motion Picture – Drama and Director – motion picture for Zhao. “Minari” won for Best Motion Picture – Foreign Language.
The Vancouver Film Critics Circle named Nomadland as its best international feature film of 2020 with Chloé Zhao’s receiving the award for Best Director and Frances McDormand won for Best Actress.
