SYNOPSIS: In Bong Joon-ho’s exhilarating new film, a threadbare family of four struggling to make ends meet gradually hatches a scheme to work for, and as a result infiltrate, the wealthy household of an entrepreneur, his seemingly frivolous wife, and their troubled kids. How they go about doing this—and how their best-laid plans spiral out to destruction and madness—constitutes one of the wildest, scariest, and most unexpectedly affecting movies in years, a portrayal of contemporary class resentment that deservedly won the Cannes Film Festival’s Palme d’Or. As with all of this South Korean filmmaker’s best works, Parasite is both rollicking and ruminative in its depiction of the extremes to which human beings push themselves in a world of unending, unbridgeable economic inequality.
The late Korean actor Lee Sun-kyun will be honored at the 29th Busan International Film Festival with a special program titled ‘In Memory of Lee Sun-kyun’, where six of the actor’s most beloved films will be screened. The festival will also honor the late actor with this year’s Korean Cinema Award.
Parasite won the Best Film award at the 14th Asian Film Awards (“AFA14”) along with Best Screenplay for co-writers Han Jin Won and the film’s director Bong Joon Ho. The film also won for Best Production Design and Best Editing totaling four awards. “I am grateful to all the people involved with the Asian Film Awards for making it possible that Parasite could become part of AFA’s legacy. The Asian Film Awards Academy (“AFAA”) announced the nominations for the 14th Asian Film Awards (“AFA14”) lead by Bong Joon-ho’s Oscar-winning Parasite with 10 nominations, followed by So Long, My Son by Wang Xiaoshuai and A Sun by Chung Mong-hong, which have both been nominated in 7 categories.
Hulu announced today that Parasite, winner of the Best Picture at this year’s Oscar, will be exclusively available for streaming beginning Wednesday, April 8. Parasite, from director Bong Joon Ho took home four Oscars including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best International Feature Film. The film also won the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film, the SAG Award for Best Ensemble Cast and the Palme D’or, the top prize at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival.
The South Korean film Parasite made history, becoming the first non-English film to win the Oscar for best picture at the 92nd Academy Awards. Parasite also won the award for International Feature Film (previously know as Foreign Film), Writing (Original Screenplay) and Director for Bong Joon Ho.
Indie films The Farewell, Uncut Gems, The Lighthouse, Marriage Story, Judy, Booksmart and See You Yesterday, along with Give Me Liberty, American Factory and Parasite won awards at the 35th Film Independent Spirit Awards ceremony.

Bong Joon Ho’s darkcomedy Parasite came out on top at the 40th London Critics’ Circle Film Awards, winning Film of the Year and Director of the Year for Bong. The Souvenir, Joanna Hogg’s bittersweet 1980s memoir was named British/Irish Film of the Year and its 22-year-old leading lady Honor Swinton Byrne received the Young British/Irish Performer award.
Chinese filmmaker Zheng Lu Xinyuan won the Tiger Award at the 49th International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) for her film The Cloud in Her Room. In her personal debut film, shot in black-and-white, filmmaker Zheng Lu Xinyuan follows 22-year-old Muzi as she returns to Hangzhou, where she was born, for the New Year’s celebration. However, it’s like she doesn’t really fit in anywhere.
The Latino Entertainment Journalists Association announced the winners for the 2019 Latino Entertainment Film Awards where “Parasite” won the most awards with five, including Best Picture, Director (Bong Joon-Ho), Original Screenplay (Bong Joon-Ho and Jin Won Han), International Feature (for the country of South Korea), and Film Editing (Yang Jinmo).
And Then We Danced and Aniara were crowned the winners of the 2020 Guldbagge Awards held in Stockholm yesterday, with four awards each. Levan Akin’s And Then We Danced won the top prize of Best Film, with the Best Director award going to Pella Kågerman and Hugo Lilja for Aniara.
