THE EYES OF TAMMY FAYE
Tuesday, September 21 | 6 PM
Wheeler Opera House

THE EYES OF TAMMY FAYE is an intimate look at the extraordinary rise, fall and redemption of televangelist Tammy Faye Bakker. In the 1970s and 80s, Tammy Faye and her husband, Jim Bakker, rose from humble beginnings to create the world’s largest religious broadcasting network and theme park, and were revered for their message of love, acceptance and prosperity. Tammy Faye was legendary for her indelible eyelashes, her idiosyncratic singing, and her eagerness to embrace people from all walks of life. However, it wasn’t long before financial improprieties, scheming rivals, and scandal toppled their carefully constructed empire. (USA, 2021) 126MIN

The film takes us to three communities that are trying to shift the culture in creating room for play and independence with the hope of raising kids to become competent, healthy, and happy adults. When kids don’t play unsupervised by adults, they don’t gain critical life skills: grit, independence, and resourcefulness. Though they may appear more accomplished on paper, by the time they get to college they are often falling apart, lacking the emotional tools to navigate. (USA, 2020) 78MIN

MY NAME IS PAUL MURRAY
Thursday, September 23 | 2 PM
Isis Theater

Fifteen years before Rosa Parks refused to surrender her bus seat, a full decade before the U.S. Supreme Court overturned separate-but-equal legislation, Pauli Murray was already knee-deep fighting for social justice. A pioneering attorney, activist, priest and dedicated memoirist, Murray shaped and mark litigation—and consciousness—around race and gender equity. As an African American youth raised in the segregated South—who was also wrestling with broader notions of gender identity—Pauli understood, intrinsically, what it was to exist beyond previously accepted categories and cultural norms. Both Pauli’s personal path and tireless advocacy foreshadowed some of the most politically consequential issues of our time. Told largely in Pauli’s own words, My Name is Pauli Murray is a candid recounting of that unique and extraordinary journey. (USA, 2021) 91MIN

FLYING BOAT
Thursday, September 23 | 8 PM
Wheeler Opera House

Sunday, September 26 | 5 PM
Crystal Theatre

FLYING BOAT, a breakout documentary by Aspen Filmmaker/Photographer/Pilot Dirk Braun, chronicles the past with a look to the future. It is a contemporary take on a subject rich in history that has been lost in time. The film underscores the importance of preserving the flying boat’s history for future generations. Braun brought together 10 passionate fellow pilots who are featured in the film and have different aspirations and ambitions as to why they’re flying them. These aviators share a rare bond and provide reflective commentary about their experiences of flying and maintaining these impressive machines of which only a few remain. Breathtaking aerial footage of the aircraft in motion is integrated with untapped archival footage from the long-lost era of adventure and romance of the Golden Years of aviation. The film blends verité, high production and an original score by multi-instrumental & original composer, Shawn Lee. (USA, 2021) 77MIN
