Summer with Hope - 56th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival award winners
Summer with Hope directed by Sadaf Foroughi

The Iranian social drama Summer with Hope directed by Sadaf Foroughi won the Grand Prix – Crystal Globe at the 56th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. In the film, a young swimmer is training for the national championships with his new coach, but the relationship between the two young men elicits disapproval from the people around them. “We live in a world full of violence and discrimination. I hope that our stories bring peace and tranquility,” said director Sadaf Foroughi to the jury and her colleagues.

The Special Jury Prize went to the Spanish film You Have to Come and See It directed by Jonás Trueba.

The Czech film The Word won two awards – Best Director Award for Beata Parkanová and Best Actor Award for Martin Finger. The film is a portrait of the family of Václav Vojíř, a respected notary and small-town authority, and his self-sacrificing spouse Věra.

The first ever winner of the new Proxima festival competition is the documentary Art Talent Show directed by Adela Komrzý and Tomáš Bojar, about talent exams to the Academy of Fine Arts.

The Proxima Special Jury Prize went to the Spanish-Argentine film La Pietà.

PSH Neverending Story, a documentary about a rap band featuring three rappers from Prague – Orion, Vladimir 518 and Mike Trafik are Peneři strýčka Homeboye (Uncle Homeboy’s Hoboes) was selected as the winner of the Právo Audience Award. “This film is basically about friendship and the capability of staying together even though each of us is different,” director Štěpán FOK Vodrážka summed up the message of the KVIFF’s most popular film.
