Prime Video shared the official trailer for Cassandro, the biopic drama on gay wrestler Cassandro, the “Liberace of lucha libre.”

Starring in the film are Gael García Bernal as Cassandro, Roberta Colindrez, Perla De La Rosa, Joaquín Cosío, and Raúl Castillo, with special appearances from El Hijo del Santo and “Bad Bunny” Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio.

Release Date

Directed by Academy Award winner® Roger Ross Williams, in his narrative directorial debut, Cassandro premiered at Sundance FIlm Festival, and opens in select theaters on September 15, then available on Prime Video on September 22.

Synopsis

Based on a true story, Gael García Bernal stars as Saúl Armendáriz, a gay amateur wrestler from El Paso, who rises to international stardom after he creates the character Cassandro, the “Liberace of Lucha Libre.” In the process, he upends not just the macho wrestling world, but also his own life.
