The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced the lineup for Open Roads: New Italian Cinema, which will take place from June 5-12, 2014. Open Roads has served as the leading North American showcase of contemporary Italian cinema for the past 13 years. This exceptionally strong and diverse edition includes the latest work from established veterans (Gianni Amelio, Roberto Andò, Daniele Luchetti) and top award winners, alongside promising new talents from both the commercial and independent spheres, with in-person appearances at many screenings.

The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced the appointment of Lesli Klainberg as Executive Director and Eugene Hernandez as Deputy Director, a newly created post at the organization. Klainberg has been in place as the Film Society’s Interim Executive Director since December, and will now officially take the helm. Both will also assume the role of Co-Publisher for Film Comment magazine.

The Film Society of Lincoln Center in New York City announced the full schedule and details for Art of the Real, the new documentary-as-art series that will take place April 11-26, 2014. Corneliu Porumboiu’s THE SECOND GAME will have its North American premiere on Opening Night, with the director in attendance, following the screening of Raya Martin and Mark Peranson’s LA ÚLTIMA PELÍCULA.

Director Rob Reiner, will be honored at the Film Society of Lincoln Center’s 41st Annual Chaplin Award Gala held at Lincoln Center i New York City on Monday, April 28, 2014.  According to the Film Society of Lincoln Center, ‘The event will celebrate the range of Reiner’s work from the pure comedy of This Is Spinal Tap and The Princess Bride to the intense drama of Stand By Me; the romantic comedy of When Harry Met Sally…, as well as his extensive on-screen work highlighted with the role of Michael “Meathead” Stivic in the landmark television series All in the Family.’

The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced the lineup for the upcoming 14th edition of Film Comment magazine’s Film Comment Selects, taking place from February 17 to 27, 2014. The annual festival will present 22 discoveries and rediscoveries, 17 of them New York premieres, and nine without U.S. distribution, handpicked by the magazine’s editors after scouring the international festival circuit in 2013.  This year’s lineup include new films by Hong Sang-soo, whose Opening Night selection OUR SUNHIwon the director’s prize in Locarno and the 15th feature from the South Korean master, Bernardo Bertolucci, who returns with his first Italian-language feature in 32 years, ME AND YOU, which will screen on Closing Night.

Film Comment magazine, published by the Film Society of Lincoln Center, released its annual best of year film lists, with Joel & Ethan Coen’s INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS, Steve McQueen’s 12 YEARS A SLAVE and Richard Linklater’s BEFORE MIDNIGHT taking the top spots among films released in 2013. Other films making the list include Joshua Oppenheimer’s THE ACT OF KILLING, Lucien Castaing-Taylor & Véréna Paravel’s LEVIATHAN and Shane Carruth’s UPSTREAM COLOR. Film Comment’s survey also ranks films that have screened and made notable appearances at film festivals throughout the year, but remain without U.S. distribution.

The Film Society of Lincoln Center’s annual horror fest Scary Movies returns for its 7th edition at the Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center in New York City from  Thursday, October 31 to Thursday, November 7, 2013.  Films on the lineup include Lucky McKee and Chris Sivertson’s high school horror-revenge film ALL CHEERLEADERS DIE; Eli Roth’s CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST homage, THE GREEN INFERNO; the Italian supernatural meets nature film ACROSS THE RIVER; creepy psycho-thriller PROXY; creepy psycho-comedy CHEAP THRILLS; Mark Hartley’s retelling of the Australian classic PATRICK; European vacation from hell outing AFFLICTED, and mind-warped puzzler OPEN GRAVE starring ELYSIUM and DISTRICT 9 star Sharlto Copley.

Director/writer, Andrea Arnold, has been selected as the 2013 Filmmaker in Residence at the The Film Society of Lincoln Center, to take place during the 51st New York Film Festival. The initiative is in partnership with luxury brand Jaeger-LeCoultre, to further the goals of filmmakers at an earlier stage in the creative process. Arnold will have the opportunity to focus on developing or refining new work, and participate in master classes, mentorships or cultural exchange and enrichment film programs with the Film Society of Lincoln members, the film community and the public.
