For its fifth year, Mountainfilm returns to New York City, November 21 to 23, for a weekend of documentaries about adventure, environment, and culture. But mainly adventure. The Opening Night film will be Matt Livadary’s Queens & Cowboys: A Straight Year on the Gay Rodeo, which covers a year in the lives of extraordinary cowboys and cowgirls as they follow their dreams, no matter how wild or daunting. And the series will close with Valley Uprising, narrated by Peter Sarsgaard. The highly anticipated doc about the epic history of climbing in Yosemite National Park and the countercultural roots of outdoor sports features digitally animated archival photography, spectacular climbing footage, and interviews with Yosemite greats—from pioneers like Yvon Chouinard, Royal Robbins, Lynn Hill, and John Long to cutting-edge modern athletes like Dean Potter and Alex Honnold.

The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced today the complete lineup for the 15th edition of Latinbeat, the premier annual showcase for contemporary cinema from Latin America, running from July 11-20. This year’s festival combines personal, risk-taking works by mostly emerging filmmakers with award-winning productions. This juxtaposition, and the breadth of countries represented, speak to the growth of a film industry that began in only a few countries about 15 years ago and has now spread throughout the entire region. We are excited to celebrate this fertile state of affairs with an eclectic selection that attests to the region’s continued cinematic renewal.

The Film Society of Lincoln Center today announced Laurie Simmons as the artist behind the design for the 52nd New York Film Festival poster. She joins a stellar lineup of artists that have commissioned their work for the festival including Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, David Hockney, Julian Schnabel, Cindy Sherman, and last year’s artist, Tacita Dean. Looked upon as a yearly artistic “signature” for the film festival, NYFF posters have taken on a celebrated pop culture significance through the years. Recently, the Saul Bass 1964 NYFF poster has been seen prominently on AMC’s Mad Men. Please find a complete list of artists below.
