Utopia Distribution is emerging as a leader in independent film acquisition and distribution. Utopia’s latest acquisition, sci-fi thriller Minor Premise, will have its world premiere at the renowned Fantasia Festival in Montreal, which kicks off the genre film festival season, and will take place virtually from August 20 to September 2, 2020.

Minor Premise is the feature directorial debut of Eric Schultz – a New York-based filmmaker and the founder of Relic Pictures. He is an Independent Spirit and Gotham Award-nominated producer and has been named as one of Variety’s 10 Producers to Watch. Armed with a cum laude BA in Psychology from Harvard, Eric wrote Minor Premise’s screenplay with Thomas Torrey and Justin Moretto.

In this science-based thriller drama, a reclusive Indian American neuroscientist becomes entangled in his own experiment, pitting ten fragments of his consciousness against each other, as he strives to surpass his father’s legacy.

“The visionary creative team behind Minor Premise have made one of the most exciting sci-fi debuts in recent memory. As a company built to support emerging visions, Utopia couldn’t be more honored to be entrusted with bringing the film to audiences all over the globe,” says Danielle DiGiacomo, Utopia’s Head of Content.

Additional projects that Utopia has released during the company’s successful period of COVID-era pivots include the highly visible Sundance 2020 documentary feature BLOODY NOSE, EMPTY POCKETS; celebrated rock icon doc SUZI Q; and the re-release of the restored ‘80s BMX cult classic RAD. Upcoming releases also include HOUSE OF CARDIN about the life and legacy of famed couturier Pierre Cardin; the feature dramedy THE ARGUMENT directed by Utopia founder Robert Schwartzman; and the Bill Gates-backed documentary TURNING POINT chronicling the importance of clinical trials in the effort to cure Alzheimer’s disease, to name a few.
