BFI London Film Festival Announces 2010 Awards Winners

The 54th BFI London Film Festival announced its winners at the high profile awards ceremony held at London’s LSO St Luke’s. The five awards were presented by some of the most respected figures in the film world.

BEST FILM: HOW I ENDED THIS SUMMER, directed by Alexei Popogrebsky
Celebrating the most original, intelligent and distinctive filmmaking in the Festival, the Best Film award, presented in partnership with American Express, has been judged by an international jury chaired by actress Patricia Clarkson alongside fellow jurors including Gabriel Byrne. The award for Best Film was presented by Patricia Clarkson to Alexei Popogrebsky for HOW I ENDED THIS SUMMER.

Doha Tribeca Film Festival 2010 Winners

Hawi won Best Arab Film and Balls picked up the award for Best Arab Filmmaker in recognition for its screenplay at the second Doha Tribeca Film Festival (DTFF) which came to a dramatic end at the Closing Night Gala and open-air concert by superstar Ragheb Alama along the Arabian Gulf at Katara Cultural Village. Kim Basinger To Narrate A Smithsonian Channel Documentary

Kim Basinger will narrate a Smithsonian Channel documentary on the rare blue Hope Diamond, thought to be the world’s most valuable gem. The special marks the 50th anniversary of the diamond’s donation to the National Museum of Natural History by Harry Winston, its last private owner. “Mystery of the Hope Diamond” will premiere Nov. 21. Matt Damon To Narrate Lance Armstrong Documentary

Matt Damon has been confirmed as being involved in a Lance Armstrong documentary due for release next year, with the American actor set to narrate the Alex Gibney-made film. The project, which is mainly based around Armstrong’s 2009 comeback to the Tour de France, will presumably be launched before the 2011 Tour in order to capitalise on media attention.
