In his mid-30’s, he played 79 games in an 82-game season to set a league record, then followed that performance by playing 73 the next season on a completely rebuilt knee. His acrobatic style and cat-like reflexes led to five Stanley Cup championships and two Canada Cup victories. He also got himself demoted to the minors and was suspended for an entire NHL season for substance abuse, only to return and redeem himself as one of the game’s true greats. In the words of Wayne Gretzky, “I think he’s the best goaltender in the history of the NHL.”
