W Magazine announced today the launch of its inaugural online film festival: Fashion on Film, the definitive online destination for fashionable films, artful videos and designer shorts, featuring the premiere of a short documentary, The Remaking of W. “W is known for its images and now we will be known for images in motion,” says Editor-in-Chief Stefano Tonchi. “Fashion on Film will showcase the stories of people with style, featuring a talented, eclectic roster of films and directors.”
Fashion on Film will have four channels; one will debut the short documentary, The Remaking of W directed by Greg Brunkalla, the second will be devoted to designer branded fashion films; the third will feature a video exhibition curated by Hervé Mikaeloff; and the last will showcase contest finalists from W’s In a Fashion Minute contest.
The Remaking of W: An insider’s look at the creation of the new W Magazine. Editor-in-Chief, Stefano Tonchi, takes you behind the pages of the new magazine to meet the writers, editors, photographers, models, and celebrities who bring each issue to life.
Fashion Films: A selection of designer films and multi-media videos curated by W. Fashion designers showcase their vision and aesthetic. Brands including Christian Dior, Tod’s, Alexander Wang, Rag & Bone, Versace, Yves Saint Laurent, Yohji Yamamoto, Proenza Schouler, Missoni, and Chanel, will be featured alongside films directed by David Lynch, Craig McDean, Karl Lagerfeld, and R.J. Cutler among others.
Best of the Festivals: W’s guest curator, Hervé Mikaeloff, scours film festivals and art shows in search of artistic, fashionable films to feature in his online video exhibition, “Change and Performance.” Mikaeloff, an independent art consultant, currently advises the LVMH group and serves as the art curator at the Royal Monceau, Paris. “I’m thrilled to be working with W and Fashion on Film, which gives us a venue to showcase an extraordinary group of artists whose focus is the world of style,” he says.
