Release Date

Directed by Ann Oren, Piaffe world premiered at Locarno Film Festival 2022 and opens in New York on August 25th at The Quad Cinema, followed by Los Angeles on September 15th at Landmark’s Nuart Theatre.

Synopsis

Introverted and unqualified, Eva (Simone Bucio) is unexpectedly tasked with foleying the sound for a commercial featuring a horse. As she slowly acclimates to the new job, her obsession with creating the perfect equine sounds grows into something more tangible. Eva harnesses this new physicality, becoming more confident and empowered, and lures an unassuming botanist into an intriguing game of submission.

Reviews

IndieWire’s review gave the film an A- writing, “Piaffe is a celebration of kink, queerness, and the pleasures of unfurling like a fern into your final form.”

“Piaffe plants seeds on a rich seam of subjects — from gender and sexuality, to nature and control — without synthesising them in an easy-to-read ending. It is the kind of film that demands to be seen and written about by a wide variety of people, for it is unlikely that any two people will come away feeling like they watched the same picture.”
