28 films representing 26 European countries will be featured at the 11th annual Calgary European Film Festival (CEFF), taking place at Globe Cinema and Online from November 5-13, 2022.
This year’s lineup is a showcase of the diverse films coming from Europe, including comedies such as Beautiful from Germany, which comes to Calgary for its Canadian premiere and uses humor to highlight our obsession with female beauty standards. There are also movies based on real life stories, such as Sonata from Poland, about a young man who dreams of playing Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata on the piano after being misdiagnosed with autism and finally being treated for his profound hearing loss. Avid skiers want to check out The Last Race from the Czech Republic, a gripping drama about a ski race in 1913 set in the Giant Mountain peaks.
“At CEFF 2022, we are screening 28 movies, offering a wide variety of genres, set to satisfy various tastes. This includes entertaining movies (Cream, Beautiful, One Careful Owner), dark comedies (Carbon), mind-triggering features (Three Floors, Murina, Quake, Shelter), and a drama/history movie from Sweden (The Emigrants) with amazing cinematography that must be seen on big screen. This year, in collaboration with Calgary Arab Arts & Culture Society (CAACS), we are also presenting the movie A Tale of Love and Desire, which tells the impressive story of a French/Algerian boy who grew up in the suburbs of Paris, falling in love with newly-arrived young Tunisian girl, and although overwhelmed with desire, he tries to resist it. The CEFF 2022 full lineup provides a unique opportunity for an exciting adventure for any fun-seeking individual, who is ready for the full ride,” said CEFF board member Mahfam Ghods, who oversees the festival’s programming.
This year’s hybrid event is a celebratory return to the collective movie-watching experience, and the second hybrid festival for CEFF, after two online only festivals.
All films at CEFF are presented in their original language with English subtitles.
